GKS-Certificate

With the GKS - Certificate (GKS-seal) does the Steinheilkunde eV promote the socially desirable goal of trade and management of high quality and genuine precious stones and minerals .

What does GKS?

Gemmologisch kontrollierte Steinqualität (gemmological controlled stone quality) is a check mark for superior precious and gemstone qualities.

Who is behind the GKS certificate?

The GKS-seal is awarded by the  Steinheilkunde eV, the owner of the recording label. The checks are carried out by independent test institutes.

What are the guidelines from GKS?

According to the GKS guidelines synthetically made products (eg, Goldfluß) are expressly excluded. If the physical properties (eg color, transparency) of precious stones and mineralsare artificially modified these changes in the properties have to be designated explicitly. Toxic minerals are clearly marked with a poison symbol and the word 'toxic'. Moreover, the buyers of these stones is given a safety datasheet.

Minerals and precious stones have to be addressed with the correct mineral name.

Trade names (eg "Leopard stone") are allowed if the mineralogical name is attached (eg, leopard stone, rhyolite).

How are the policies monitored?

Each Company in the GKS-control program is checked at least once per year. In addition to announced inspections will also take checks without announcement.

All merchants who own the GKS-certificate is awarded a list of the most frequently manipulated stones. They agree to take over in their range newly acquired stones that are on this list,  only after they have been tested by a gemological laboratory .
